Holidays lights recycling info

Twenty-four communities and the Naperville Park District are involved with the holiday lights recycling program through Elgin Recycling Inc., with most drop-off sites accepting old lights and extension cords through January. Information about which communities are involved in the program is available at elginrecycling.com.

Several communities have joined with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County to recycle strings of unused or nonfunctioning holiday lights and extension cords. Garlands, live greens, wreaths and other non-recyclables are not accepted.

• Arlington Heights: Collection is 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday- Friday through January at the public works facility, 222 N. Ridge Ave. (847) 368-5800.

• Barrington: 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday until Feb. 28 at Public Works, 300 N. Raymond Ave. (847) 381-7903

• Buffalo Grove: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday through Feb. 11 at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. (847) 459-2530. The police department, 46 Raupp Blvd., accepts them 24 hours a day. (847) 459-2530.

• Elk Grove Village: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Health and Community Services, 901 Wellington Ave. year-round. (847) 439-3900.

• Mount Prospect: 7:30 a.m. -5 p.m. weekdays at Public Works, 1700 W. Central Road, through Feb. 11. (847) 870-5640.

Naperville Park District's drop-off sites include:

• 7 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, South Maintenance Facility, 3415 Book Road.

• 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Central Shop (behind the Barn Recreation Center), 421 W. Martin Ave.

• 8:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave. (Upper Level).

• 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Sunday, Springbrook Golf Course, 2220 W. 83rd St. (closed through Jan. 2).

• 8 to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Naperbrook Golf Course, 22204 W. 111th St./Hasselt Blvd. (closed through Jan. 2).

In West Chicago, lights and cords will be accepted:

• Through Feb. 19 at Murphy Ace Hardware, 291 S. Neltnor Blvd., and the West Chicago Park District Fitness Station, 103 W. Washington St.

• Until March 25 at City Hall, 475 Main St.; the police department, 325 Spencer St., and the water treatment plant, 1400 W. Hawthorne Lane.

In Lake County:

• The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County recycles lights. For locations, go to swalco.org or call (847) 336-9340.
