South Elgin Police are looking for a man who reached into a grocery store cash register while checking out and made off with a handful of cash.

The suspect committed the theft just after 7 p.m. Tuesday at a Jewel located on the corner of McDonald and Randall Roads in South Elgin, according to police.

The man fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money and took off southbound in a black Chevy Tahoe on Randall, police said.

No weapon was displayed during the robbery, which was described simply as a “reach over, grab and flee” at the checkout counter.

Police described the suspect as a 6-foot-tall black male.

The suspect remained at-large as of 8:45 p.m.
