State will retry Elgin '03 murder suspect
Kane County prosecutors plan to retry Darren Denson for a 2003 murder in Elgin.
Denson, 39, formerly of Chicago, is accused of wielding a knife in the Feb. 11 slaying of Kyle Juggins.
Juggins also was shot during the attack and died on a mattress between his girlfriend and their 15-month-old son.
Denson, who is serving a 50-year sentence for a 2005 murder in Wisconsin, did not take the witness stand during his five-day trial in Kane County last month.
The trial, in which prosecutors alleged Denson was looking to rob a drug dealer of $30,000, ended in a mistrial on Nov. 6 after more than eight hours of jury deliberations.
Denson is the fourth person to be tried in Juggins' murder.
Denson's attorney's appeared in court Friday and a jury trial was tentatively set for April 4.
