2 convicted in beating of homeless man

JOLIET — Will County authorities say a judge has convicted two homeless men of robbery and aggravated battery in the severe beating of another man who was also homeless.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow says 40-year-old Charles Campbell and 45-year-old Robert Hale were convicted Friday and are scheduled for sentencing Feb. 10. Glasgow says Campbell faces between three and seven years in prison, while Campbell faces between six and 30 years in prison with no option for probation because of a past criminal record.

The two defendants beat the 52-year-old victim and stole $88 from him on July 16 in downtown Joliet near the Joliet Central High School campus. Glasgow says Campbell and Hale began harassing the victim because he had just gotten paid from a temporary job.
