Santa will spread a little magic in Addison

The village of Addison will welcome the holiday season with a little help from Santa.

Addison's Old Fashioned Holiday Tree-Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Walk is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the village hall, 1 Friendship Plaza.

The free event includes photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus, an ice sculpture demonstration and caroling.

About 8 p.m., Santa Claus will sprinkle some magic dust from his horse-drawn wagon and illuminate a 40-foot tree and the municipal grounds.

“There's a lot going on, and it's going to be a lot of fun,” said organizer Deanna Lullo of the Green Meadows shopping center, the event's main sponsor.

Photos with Santa begin at 5 p.m. in the rotunda, where visitors also can watch an elf make balloon animals or rub elbows with a snowman and reindeer.

Goody bags with coloring books, crayons and other items will be available for children. In addition, there will be children's games and prizes, candle-making and face-painting, among other activities.

This year's music will be performed by children from several schools, as well as a bell choir from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, said Angelo Source, special events coordinator for the village of Addison.

There also will be free refreshments from Uncle Harry's Ice Cream, hot chocolate from the Kiwanis Club of Addison and doughnut holes from Clyde's Delicious Donuts.

Source said the annual event has been a tradition for a decade or more. Last year, more than 500 peopled turned out.

“Our building and grounds people do a phenomenal job decorating village hall and the grounds, so everything is meticulously lit,” Source said. “The nice thing is, it really brings out the families.”

The celebration continues Saturday, Dec. 4, with a holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Addison Historical Museum, 135 W. Army Trail Road.

Following the open house will be a tea party from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Addison Public Library, 4 Friendship Plaza. Call (630) 543-3617 for reservations.

The library will continue the festivities from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, with an open house featuring the Chicago Cossacks, a Russian music, song and dance ensemble.
