Palatine man hit by car, critically injured

A 57-year-old Palatine man hit by a car Monday night is fighting for his life.

Palatine police said Hristo Nanev was walking in the 1300 block of North Rand Road about 8 p.m. when he left the curb area on the north parkway and stepped into the path of a vehicle.

A 1995 Honda Accord driven by a 49-year-old Palatine woman was traveling northwest on Rand in the inside lane when it struck Nanev. Police said Nanev was dressed in dark clothing and wasn't crossing at a crosswalk.

He was treated at the scene by the Palatine Fire Department then transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he remains in critical condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder said barring an unforeseen development in the investigation, no charges are expected against the driver.

Rand Road was closed from Evergreen Drive to Wilke Road for about three hours after the collision. Members of the Palatine Technical Accident Reconstruction Unit are continuing their investigation.
