Scouting Lake Park girls basketball

Lake Park

Coach: Chris Fruehling.

Last year: 16-12, 7-3, third in Upstate Eight Conference, lost in regional semifinals.

Top players: Alexis Hahn, jr. F; Alex Munoz, sr., G; Alyssa Hernandez, so., F; Gina Castiglione, sr., G; Ashleigh Ricchio, jr. F; Nicole Moore, jr. F; Amanda Prosperi, jr. G.

Scouting report: If any team deserves sympathy, it’s the Lancers. “We have been stricken by the injury bug. We’re in the hole a little bit,” Fruehling said. Castiglione, one of two seniors on the team, might not play at all after breaking an ankle and femur playing softball. Hernandez is rehabbing after shoulder surgery and hopes to return in December. Munoz could miss a month after breaking her nose. Then there’s the usual bumps and bruises, making it tough to find enough players to scrimmage. You can see why Fruehling said, “It’s a learning year for us.” Hahn, who missed much of last year with a back injury, will be counted on to pick up where she left off, as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. “She’s a very good basketball player, very strong inside game and can also shoot from the outside,” Fruehling said.
