Police expect to charge mother in daughter's murder

Bloomingdale chief expects mother to be charged in 4-year-old's death

Police expect to charge the mother of a 4-year-old girl who was killed Wednesday inside a Bloomingdale townhouse sometime Friday, according to authorities.

The 43-year-old woman remains hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights in good condition for self-inflicted wounds.

Charges have not been filed, but Bloomingdale Police Chief Frank Giammarese said there is a police presence with her at the hospital.

The woman's daughter, 4-year-old Magdalene “Maggie” Webber, was murdered inside a townhouse on the 200 block of Amhurst Court in Bloomingdale early Wednesday afternoon, police said.

“We are still following up on leads and have not filed charges against the mom,” Giammarese said. “I would suspect that it looks like we are going in that direction by tomorrow,”

Giammarese said his department was not actively looking for any other suspects as of Thursday night.

Authorities responded to the residence just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after a relative of the family, who police say is a witness of the crime, called 911.

A neighbor said a young woman ran from the house when police arrived, dropped to her knees and told police she feared two of her family members were dead.

“She said there was so much blood she couldn't get into the bathroom to where they (were),” said Charlotte Benson, who lives near the townhouse.

Bloomingdale Police Deputy Chief Bruce Beck said the girl had been living with her grandmother in the townhouse, and that the mother had moved into the residence recently.

Police would not comment on what happened inside the home that left the 4-year-old girl dead because the investigation is ongoing.

“You wouldn't expect anything like that happening around here,” Benson said Wednesday afternoon.

“It's such a nice neighborhood where everyone gets along.”
