4-year-old found dead in Bloomingdale townhouse

A 4-year-old girl is dead and her mother injured after a domestic incident Wednesday afternoon inside a townhouse on the 200 block of Amhurst Court in Bloomingdale, police said.

Police were called just after 1:30 p.m. to the residence, where officers discovered what they described as two victims and a witness.

Chief Frank Giammarese said the injured mother was taken to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights. Her injuries were self-inflicted, police said, but she is resting in good condition.

No charges have been filed at this point, officials said.

Giammarese could not immediately say how the child died.

He said the witness, who notified police of the incident, is a family member and was unharmed.

“We are in the preliminary stages of the investigation and there is a lot to go over about what took place before we can give out accurate details,” Giammarese said.

He did, however, say police are not looking for any outside suspects.

Charlotte Benson, who lives nearby, said a young woman ran from the house when police arrived, dropped to her knees, then said she feared two of her family members were dead because she couldn't get close enough to assess their condition.

“She (the young woman) said there was so much blood she couldn't get into the bathroom to where they (were),” Benson said.

Benson said police were quick to respond in full force.

The incident is shocking, she said, because her neighbors are “really nice people.” She said she believes two female relatives live in the townhouse.

“You wouldn't expect anything like that happening around here. It's such a nice neighborhood where everyone gets along,” Benson said.

The DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force assisted Bloomingdale police at the scene, where officers were still present late Wednesday.
