Many thanks to literacy volunteers

People's Resource Center (PRC) wishes to express its appreciation to the hundreds of volunteers and College of DuPage (COD) instructors who work tirelessly with our Literacy Program to transform lives. With their help, adult students learn literacy skills so they can, for example, get a job or talk to their children's teachers. One student summed up her experience by saying, “Now I can talk to my children's friends parents.”

Since 1997, People's Resource Center has offered an adult literacy program to DuPage County residents in need. The program gives students opportunities to learn basic literacy skills, and also provides ESL, GED and citizenship instruction. Students can take free classes and have one-on-one tutoring at PRC or convenient locations in DuPage County. PRC's literacy student population almost doubled during the past three years, reflecting both the rising need for services and the effectiveness of the program. In the past year, 597 adult students studied in the literacy program.

Many thanks to all our dedicated and generous volunteers who make programs like these possible.
