North Chicago man denies role in drug death

A North Chicago man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he supplied the heroin that killed an Antioch woman.

Sederls Williams, 32, faces a mandatory prison sentence of six to 30 years if convicted of drug-induced homicide.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Steven Derue said Williams, of the 1000 block of Glenn Drive, sold heroin to 22-year-old Lindsey Smith on June 12.

Smith was found later that day unresponsive in a room at the Sunset Motel, 267 Route 173, and an autopsy determined she had died of a heroin overdose.

Antioch police and agents of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group interviewed people who had been seen with Smith that day, Derue said, and those people identified Williams.

Williams was arrested Sept. 22, and is also charged with delivery of a controlled substance.

Associate Judge Daniel Shanes scheduled a trial of the case for Jan. 10. Shanes ordered Williams, who is held on $350,000 bond, to appear in court Nov. 27.
