Scouting Dundee-Crown at Cary-Grove

Dundee-Crown (0-8, 0-4) at Cary-Grove (5-3, 3-1)

When: today at 7:15 p.m. at Al Bohrer Field

Last year: Cary-Grove 57, Dundee-Crown 12

Last week: Crystal Lake South 28, Cary-Grove 14; Huntley 40, Dundee-Crown 7

Outlook: The Trojans' streak of six consecutive titles in Fox Valley Conference play will end tonight barring an upset by McHenry over Crystal Lake South. However, Cary-Grove's streak of consecutive playoff appearances is guaranteed to reach seven if it defeats winless Dundee-Crown in the regular-season finale. The playoffs were hardly a guarantee when the Trojans started the season 0-2 only to reel off 5 straight wins. “I think people would be foolish to start taking the string of six years for granted like that's normal,” Cary-Grove coach Bruce Kay said. “I mean, 6-3 is a good season if we win (tonight). Then we'll have to see what we can do in the playoffs.” The Chargers have been in flux at several positions late in the season, including quarterback. “I just want our guys to play hard,” Dundee-Crown coach Mike Davis said. “Watching the film from last week, I felt we did play hard, but we just didn't play very well. Cary-Grove is a real good team. We'll try to stick with them as long as we can and give them some worries. We're an 0-8 team playing a team that's going to be in the playoffs. Good things can happen as long as we play hard.” Cary-Grove has won the last 7 meetings since 2001.
