Man found dead in downtown Geneva

Police were investigating the death of a 59-year-old man whose body was found Thursday morning in downtown Geneva.

Police identified the victim as Jon M. Blaufuss of the 300 block of James Street, Geneva. A passer-by found his body shortly before 11 a.m. near a parking lot behind several businesses on the 300 block of West State Street.

Geneva Police Cmdr. Julie Nash said Blaufuss was found slumped on a park bench, and he had an “unknown wound in the chest area.” She said detectives found a gun under the bench.

Authorities were canvassing the area for witnesses. Nash said police could not classify the circumstances until coroner's officials complete their investigation.

“We haven't ruled anything out,” Nash said.

The Kane County coroner's office did not immediately return a message seeking further information.
