Arlington Heights Park District to remodel building for heavy equipment

The Arlington Heights Park District will remodel a manufacturing building at Northwest Highway and Davis Street for offices and to house and maintain snow removal and lawn equipment, following rezoning approval Monday by the Arlington Heights Village Board.

The land at 1440 E. Davis is adjacent to other park district property and was previously zoned for manufacturing. In the past it has housed a pickle factory and a wire-coating company, said architect James Tinaglia.

It is hoped the work will be done by spring, said Brian Huckstadt, director of parks and planning. The land and building were purchased for $1.2 million 2003 and $750,000 will be spent on the improvements, he said.

In order for the work to move forward, village trustees had to change the zoning and the village's comprehensive plan to designate the site as public land.

The remodeling affects about one-third of the district's maintenance staffpeople and equipment that had been removed from Pioneer Park to make way for community center improvements there.
