Hersey's Rogowski commits to DePaul

Hersey's all-time leading scorer will be joining the program of one of Illinois's all-time leading women's basketball coaches.

Senior Megan Rogowski has made a verbal commitment to play for DePaul University and coach Doug Bruno.

Rogowski became the Hersey's career leader last season when she finished with 1,627 points.

She also led the Huskies with 49 steals while collecting 163 rebounds and 74 assists.

Bruno, who will be entering his 25th season with the Blue Demons, has a 458-263 record at DePaul and has led it to 15 NCAA tournament appearances, including eight consecutive.

Rogowski made her official visit on the Chicago campus Sunday.

“At the end of it, I told coach Bruno that I wanted to be a part of his program, Rogowski said. “The reason I chose DePaul was because I was comfortable with everything about it. The coaching staff is great and you can't go wrong with having Bruno as your coach.

Hersey coach Mary Fendley can't go wrong with Rogowski as her floor leader.

The senior has already broke nine school records.

Her lightning-fast release for an outside shot or her powerful drives to the basket for bank shots make her one of the most dangerous scorers in the state.

“Megan has worked really hard for many years and I think DePaul is a great fit for her, Fendley said. “Coach Bruno and his staff have built a premiere program and I look forward to watching Megan be successful at the next level.

Rogowski liked the surroundings of her future school.

“It's located in a great neighborhood and you can never go wrong with the city of Chicago, she said. “Also, the university really prepares you for post-graduation.

“The players were also very nice and I was comfortable hanging out with them. Besides basketball, I thought DePaul would be a great fit academically.

Rogowski becomes the third player in Fendley's 13 seasons (248 wins) to reach the D-I level. The others were Nicolette McCartny (San Diego State) and Julie Mantilla (Yale).

“I'm thrilled for Megan, Fendley said. “It's such an impressive accomplishment to earn a full athletic scholarship.

“Her tremendous talent is complemented by a great attitude, work ethic, and personality. She is so fun to watch, and makes everyone around her better. She has created a new standard for future Huskie basketball players to follow.
