Ex-Batavian dies after Kentucky crash

Former Batavian Taylor Vit, 22, died Monday from injuries suffered in an automobile crash Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Ky.

He was the driver of a vehicle that ran into the back end of a public transit bus, injuring eight people, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper. Taylor, who played on a traveling team for Batavia Youth Baseball and hockey for the Flame Squirts when he lived in Batavia, attended Alice Gustafson Elementary School.

He was a senior at the University of Kentucky and assistant captain of its hockey team. He transferred to Kentucky his sophomore year. He played forward for the Wildcats.

The Vits moved about 11 years ago from Batavia, and most recently lived in Pennsylvania.

Vit was not wearing a seat belt; the air bag in his Nissan XTerra deployed.

Funeral services will be held in Pennsylvania.
