State-ranked Richmond routs Hampshire

Richmond-Burton spread it around against Hampshire. The Rockets used 13 ballcarriers, and 5 different players scored touchdowns as they remained unbeaten with a 41-7 Big Northern East victory in Hampshire Friday night.

Richmond (7-0, 3-0) wasted no time in taking control. The Rockets scored on their opening drive and led 35-0 after one quarter.

Hampshire got on the board on a 39-yard touchdown run by Mike Kuefner in the fourth quarter.

The Rockets didn't do anything fancy. They completed just 2 passes for 23 yards, but racked up 267 yards on the ground. Ryne Pearson led the way with 69 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 3 carries.

“They're a state-ranked team for a reason, said Hampshire coach Dan Cavanaugh. “They're what we expected. They execute their offense very well. It's not complex; they come right at you.

Richmond took it right at Hampshire right off the bat, going 63 yards on its first possession. Pearson capped it off with a 17-yard score.

On Hampshire's first possession, Brett Okane picked off Chase Lundry's pass and returned it 27 yards for a score. Pearson added his second score, a 45-yarder, minutes later.

Brandon Kinsella made it 28-0 on a 6-yard run following a 40-yard fumble return by Travis Jewell. Jack Dechow's 5-yard run made it 35-0 after less than 10 minutes.

The Whip-Purs (1-6, 1-2) played Richmond evenly after that, getting on the board when Kuefner appeared to be down but got loose, reversed field and raced 39 yards up the sideline. Michael Burkhead's kick made it 41-7.

Kuefner finished with 65 yards on 9 carries to lead Hampshire. Nick Antonacci added 44 yards on 11 carries.
