Aurora woman charged with plotting boyfriend's murder

Bail was set at $750,000 Tuesday for a 23-year-old Aurora woman accused of soliciting her boyfriend's murder.

Maricela Arciga of the 1200 block of Coventry Place was arrested Monday night after meeting with an undisclosed man to discuss details of the plot, Aurora police said.

Arciga came under investigation on Sept. 22 when police received a tip that she was trying to commission the murder of a 26-year-old Berwyn man she was dating, authorities said.

Investigators subsequently recorded two face-to-face meetings and several phone calls in which Arciga, according to police, agreed to pay $2,000 to have her boyfriend shot to death.

Police said Arciga supplied the undisclosed man with a cash advance along with photos of the intended target, his daily schedule and a description of his vehicle, among other details.

Detectives tailing Arciga's car arrested her without incident shortly after 7 p.m. Monday in a traffic stop at Liberty Street and Eastern Avenue after she met with the undisclosed man in a grocery store parking lot at Farnsworth Avenue and Grove Street, police said.

Arciga, who is charged with one count each of solicitation of murder and solicitation of murder for hire, was taken to bond call Tuesday morning, where a judge set bail at $750,000. She was being held in the Kane County jail, pending an Oct. 13 court appearance in St. Charles.
