Scouting Mundelein at Grant

Mundelein (0-5, 0-3) at Grant (2-3, 2-1)

When: 1 p.m., Saturday

Last week: Mundelein lost to Warren, 27-7; Grant def. Wauconda, 48-23.

Skinny: Mundelein may be winless, but Grant coach Kurt Rous isn't ready to make his team the favorite in its homecoming game just yet. "Mundelein's 0-5 record is a little misleading," Rous said. "They've played a couple of really tough nonconference games (Buffalo Grove and Marmion Academy) and they play over on that other side (Lake Division), which is tougher than ours. They've faced some very tough teams, so we're not taking them lightly. We know they are very talented and have some very good athletes. In a lot of ways, they're a scary team." - Mundelein has a scary-good runner in Pablo Mata, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown last week against Warren. One problem for the Mustangs this season has been scoring. They've mustered just 27 points in five games. - Grant, on the other hand, is getting to the end zone quite frequently. The Bulldogs are averaging 31.4 points per game and put up 48 points on Wauconda last week. Of those 48 points, 42 came with Grant's second-string quarterback, Alex Villa, working under center. Starting quarterback Leo Minne went down in the first quarter last week with an ankle injury when someone fell on him. Minne will not play against Mundelein. "We hope to have Minne back next week," Rous said. "It took a bit away from our offense not having him in there. But we were pleased with the way Villa came in and handled himself." Villa threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Gaylor. He also directed an offense that finished with 390 yards, 367 of which came on the ground. Steven Niewiedzial rolled up 244 rushing yards on 27 carries. Minne had 78 rushing yards before he left the game.
