Scouting Larkin at Waubonsie Valley

Larkin (2-3, 1-1) at Waubonsie Valley (4-1, 3-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Dick Kerner Field

Last meeting (2008): Waubonsie Valley 51, Larkin 13

Last week: Elgin 28, Larkin 7; Waubonsie Valley 21, Metea Valley 20

Outlook: Larkin attempts to regroup after an emotional loss to rival Elgin last Saturday. Complicating matters is the loss of starting running back/defensive back Shaquille Mosley, who was ejected last week in the third quarter and must sit this game out. Wide receiver Trevor Whitehead could see time in the defensive secondary in Mosley's place alongside defensive backs Justin Banks, Brent Cooks and Frankie Haywood. The Warriors should get quarterback Tommy Kolzow and Austin Guido back this week from injuries. Kolzow missed the last two weeks, but he previously rushed for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Warriors' first 3 games. "They have a quarterback who can move," Larkin coach Mike Scianna said. "Looking back at the film of the Elgin game, (Maroons quarterback) Lee Jackson gave us fits. We had him trapped three or four times in the backfield but he escaped. We'll come with some pressure. They can throw it quick or throw long, so you're darned if you do darned if you don't. We're young and we'll get our quick guys on their quick guys, but their quick guys are 6-2 where ours are 5-8. We have to stay pumped up. We wanted to be better than 2-3 at this point, but we have to keep trying."
