Scouting McHenry at Huntley

McHenry (0-4) at Huntley (2-2)

When: 7:15 p.m. Friday at Huntley Athletic Field

Last year: McHenry 28, Huntley 7

Last week: Huntley 34, Woodstock 16; Crystal Lake Central 42, McHenry 21

Outlook: The Warriors have won three of four meetings since Huntley joined the Fox Valley Conference in 2003. The Red Raiders have won two straight since an 0-2 start and look to go over .500 with a victory on homecoming. Huntley, which hasn't played at home since Week 1, plays three of its next four games on friendly soil. "It's our homecoming, so everybody's got a lot of positive energy and will be real excited for Friday night," Huntley coach Matt Gehrig said. The Red Raiders will have to contain the spread offense of the Warriors. McHenry is averaging 27 points per game behind quarterback Robert Tonyan. He has completed better than 64 percent of his passes for over 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. "They do a great job offensively with that spread offense, and it's real tough to replicate in practice with your scout team," Gehrig said. "As a coaching staff we gave our guys a lot of reps to get ready for it and make a quick diagnosis of the play. They do a great job running screens to counteract the pass rush. They are very well coached. We just need to take another step toward improving as a team, and our defense is a big part of that." The Huntley offense could enjoy a productive night. The Warriors have allowed 159 points (39.8 avg.). Last week against Woodstock, the Raiders' Power-I attack amassed 339 of its 393 total yards via the run. Senior Chris Cunningham led the way with 217 yards rushing on 23 carries, including touchdown runs of 69 and 13 yards. Fleet-footed senior quarterback Tim Lycos rushed for 2 touchdowns, including a 72-yarder that gave Huntley the lead for good.
