Carpentersville man guilty of child porn charge

A Carpentersville man pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge Thursday and was sentenced to two years of probation and 180 days in jail.

Jose C. Herrera, 27, of the 100 block of Golfview Court, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated child pornography possession, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Herrera was arrested last month after Carpentersville police seized a computer from his home and recovered multiple videos depicting girls younger than 13 engaged in sex acts, according to court records. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 180 days in jail in an agreement with prosecutors.

Kane County Associate Judge James C. Hallock, who accepted the terms of the plea, gave Herrera credit for 29 days served since his arrest and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.

Prosecutors said Herrera also faces deportation.
