Garcia unlikely to go Saturday

Freddy Garcia wasn't feeling too good after throwing a bullpen Tuesday, so the White Sox' veteran right-hander starter isn't likely to take the mound Saturday against the Tigers.

After making early exits in each of his last two outings with lower back pain, Garcia was hoping an epidural would help get him back to the mound. But the discomfort is still there.

"I don't think Freddy is going to pitch," Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He didn't sound good what he told me. He was throwing on the side still feeling that a lot. Coming from Freddy, that means he can't tolerate the pain because he's been pitching with pain."

Guillen said the White Sox are prepared to go with "Plan B."

Lucas Harrell filled in for Garcia on Sunday against the Royals, but he allowed 6 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks in 31/3 innings and doesn't figure to get another shot.

Tony Pena appeared to be the leading candidate to replace Garcia, but he pitched 3 innings of relief against the Twins on Wednesday night. That leaves Harrell and Carlos Torres as the likely options.

Manny watch: Manny Ramirez was 1-for-2 with 2 walks in Wednesday night's loss to the Twins, and he still doesn't have an extra-base hit or RBI in 13 games with the White Sox.

Don't expect Ramirez to be sitting on the bench anytime soon, considering the Sox are "renting" the 38-year-old designated hitter for one month at a cost of $4.3 million.

"Manny will play every day because Jerry Reinsdorf is paying a lot of money having Manny with a uniform on," Ozzie Guillen said. "He's got a couple of good swings. He's got a couple balls that just missed hitting the ball good and he will be playing. He came here to play and he will play."

Ramirez was on the disabled list three times with the Dodgers earlier in the season, and he's looked rusty with the Sox.

"When you haven't played for so long, you're just trying to catch up," Ramirez said. "I'm getting there. I'm starting to feel more comfortable."

No go for Jenks: Bobby Jenks continues dealing with ulnar neuritis and his return is unknown.

"Bobby has a long way to go," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Bobby might be pitching, maybe, I don't know if he will be, in (the) Detroit series. Hopefully when we go to the West Coast he'll be ready to pitch. I cannot say the date because I don't hear anything positive about the situation."

Calendar check: Saturday's game against the Tigers has been picked up by FOX and the starting time has been moved up to 3:05 p.m.

ESPN is broadcasting Sunday's game, which was moved back to 7:05 p.m.
