UIC launches new cultural, linguistic school

The University of Illinois at Chicago has added a new school.

Starting this semester UIC's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will offer eight academic units under the new School of Literatures, Cultural Studies and Linguistics. UIC officials say the new school will be the base for foreign language and culture studies.

The school received recent approval from the Illinois Board of Higher Education. It will encompass some existing department and programs, such as Germanic or Mediterranean studies. It also will house a new department of Hispanic and Italian studies.
