Celebrity cookbook helps anti-hunger campaign

Feed your family star-worthy recipes and help the fight against hunger with The Pampered Chef's free, downloadable cookbook featuring recipes from Courteney Cox (her Alabama Shrimp Skewers and Parmesan Grits are pictured at right), Scott Wolf, Mario Batali and many others.

Between now and Sept. 30, visit pamperedchef.com/celebcookbook and download the recipe collection. For every cookbook downloaded The Pampered Chef will donate a meal (up to 140,000) to Feeding America.

This is the 19th year the Addison-based company has held its Roundup from the Heart charitable campaign and over the years it has contributed more than $16 million toward the battle against hunger.

Besides the cookbook, you can support the company in its effort by purchasing a limited-edition Roundup from the Heart trivet at a home show or online. For every trivet sold ($13), The Pampered Chef will contribute $2 to Feeding America.

Hops and horticulture: Cantigny Park is the backdrop for Toast of the Prairie, a beer tasting and garden tour at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26.

The annual tasting event will feature the handcrafted brews from Emmett's Brewing Co. (Downers Grove, Palatine and West Dundee) overlooking the three-acre plot of native grasses and plants reminiscent of the state's landscape hundreds of years ago.

A guide from Cantigny's horticulture department will offer brief remarks about the prairie and its plantings while staff from Emmett's will then discuss the art of beermaking and pour samples of its Munich Light Lager, 1 A.M. Ale, McCarthy Red Ale and Victory Pale Ale.

Following an informative and interactive session, guests may enjoy a full-size glass of their favorite Emmett's brew. Light snacks will be served during and after the sampling.

Tickets are limited and cost $25 a person (parking included). Register at Cantigny.org or (630) 260-8162.
