Cougars, Flyers, Fielders, Bandits all lose

The host Kane County Cougars dropped their fourth straight game, losing 8-4 to the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.

The Cougars' lead for the top playoff spot is down to 1 game.

Starter Ian Krol, who was not involved in the decision, gave up 3 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings. Reliever Max Peterson suffered the loss.

The Cougars' Leonard Gil belted a 2-run homer, Juan Nunez had an RBI single and Anthony Aliotti delivered a sacrifice fly.

JackHammers 4, Flyers 2 (10): Brad Correll slugged a two-out, 2-run homer, his second of the game, in the 10th inning to lift Joliet past host Schaumburg in Northern League action at Alexian Field.

Cody Evans (2-5) took the loss. Flyers starter Aaron Guinn pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.

The Flyers had sent the game into extra innings by scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Travis Brown walked, took second on Ruddy Yan's sacrifice and scored on a single by Mario Delgado. Yan and Delgado each had 2 hits and Kit Pellow picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

RailCats 10, Fielders 9: The Lake County Fielders built a 9-3 lead, but the host Gary SouthShore RailCats rallied in the ninth inning for a Northern League victory.

Fielders catcher Zach Larson hit a solo homer, his third of the season, and drove in 2 more runs with a single. Kyle Higgins also homered. Juan Valdes and Josh Short had RBI singles and Guillermo Martinez tied a franchise record with 3 runs cored.

The Fielders' John Brownell pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, but he did not figure in the decision.

Pride 4, Bandits 0: The Florida Pride scored twice in the first inning and went on to shut out the first-place Chicago Bandits for the second straight game in National FastPitch Softball action in Round Rock, Texas.

Bandits starter Eileen Canney suffered the loss, as the Pride took three of five in the series. Kristina Thorson and rookie Nikki Nemitz appeared in relief for the Bandits.

Emily Friedman made an impressive catch for the Bandits in the first inning.
