Back to school for Ridge families

At 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, the students of Ridge Family Center for Learning, school of choice in School District 59, walked through the school's doors to begin the 2010/11 school year. Parents came along with their students for the parent portion of opening day.

The Mission of Ridge Family Center for Learning is to learn together and nurture the development of the whole child through partnerships among students, staff, families and community. Parents play an important role at Ridge, which is why it is a Family Center, because developing an enthusiasm for lifelong learning is a shared responsibility and a partnership of family, teachers, administrators and the community.

Although Ridge students enjoy a shorter summer break than other District 59 students, they were excited and happy to begin a new school year. As a "year round" school, Ridge students begin classes in July, then have three breaks during the year: mid-October, late December into January and mid-March. During these inter-session breaks, parents have the option to enroll their students in additional classes for a small fee. Ridge also offers an extended school day as well as full-time kindergarten.

Ridge Family Center for Learning is open to all families living in School District 59. For information about Ridge, call the school at (847) 593-4070.
