FBI, Elgin cops arrest two in undercover meth sting

Two Mexican nationals were arrested and charged with delivering nearly 1 kilogram of methamphetamine to an undercover officer in Elgin this week, according to information released by the FBI Friday evening.

Miguel Sanchez, 23 of Kansas City, Kan. and his brother, Fidel Sanchez, 30, of the 1000 block Sixth Street in Harvard, were arrested without incident late Monday. The men had more than 2 pounds of methamphetamine in their possession, the FBI said. Each brother was charged with one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a felony offense.

Police believe the brothers delivered wholesale quantities of methamphetamine, also known as "ice", on at least two occasions in July as part of an ongoing, undercover drug investigation by the FBI and Elgin police.

Both men are being held without bond pending at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago pending their next court appearance. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau also placed detainers on the men for possible deportation. If convicted, the Sanchez brothers face up to 10 years in prison.
