Flyers' Glant delivers complete-game victory

Dustin Glant tossed his second complete game of the season, leading the Schaumburg Flyers to a 4-2 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Canwest Park on Saturday night.

Glant gave up 2 runs on 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.

The Flyers never trailed, scoring in the first inning on a Joey Gomes sacrifice fly to center, and then again in the second on Brandon Newton's two-out chopper up the middle to bring home Richard Mercado.

The Flyers completed their scoring in the fifth, when Travis Brown and Ron Bourquin opened with back-to-back singles. Gomes' sacrifice fly scored Brown. Later in the inning, Mercado's sacrifice fly brought in Bourquin to make it 4-0.

Loons 6, Cougars 4: The Kane County Cougars suffered their fourth straight loss, 6-4 to the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond in Midland, Mich. Ian Krol (7-4) allowed 6 runs in 3 innings, and the Cougars never recovered.

Krol, who had given up 2 home runs all season, allowed 2 against the Loons, who lead the league in homers. Krol worked a 1-2-3 first inning but gave up 3 runs in the second and 3 in the third, serving up a season-high 7 hits and failing to record a strikeout for the first time this season.

Fielders 6, RailCats 4: Josh Short hit a solo home run, and the Lake County Fielders beat the host Gary RailCats 6-4.

The Fielders' Matt Schweitzer got the start - his first since 2005 - and went 42/3 innings, giving up 3 runs (all earned) on 6 hits while walking one and striking out three. Garrett Sherrill (6-1) earned the victory with 2 innings of relief.
