Miller ready to join Heat

Mike Miller had talks with LeBron James during the NBA Finals about free agency, and the reigning two-time MVP had a simple message for one of the league's best shooters.

"Sit tight," James told Miller.

So Miller waited to see what James would do - and now is on the cusp of joining him in Miami.

Miller arrived in South Florida on Wednesday and told Memphis radio station WHBQ that he would sign his five-year contract by his scheduled departure on Thursday. Miller agreed in principle to a deal late last week, and his agent Arn Tellem revealed Monday that the sharpshooter would be signing with the Heat.

The 6-foot-8 Miller shot a career-best 48 percent from 3-point range last season. In 10 NBA seasons, Miller has averaged 13.7 points and 5.1 rebounds.

Suns: Josh Childress returned to the NBA with a five-year contract on Wednesday when the revamping Phoenix Suns acquired him in a sign-and-trade deal that sent a 2012 second-round draft pick to Atlanta. Childress had played in Greece the previous two years.

In other Suns action, the team completed a deal that had been in the works for several days, acquiring forward Hedo Turkoglu in a trade that sent super-sub Leandro Barbosa and little-used forward/center Dwayne Jones to the Toronto Raptors.

Bobcats get Livingston: Shaun Livingston suffered what was widely considered a career-ending knee injury playing against Charlotte in 2007. Just over three years later, he's joining the Bobcats to continue his comeback and help plug their hole at point guard. Yahoo! Sports reported it was a two-year deal worth $7 million.

"A good get," Bobcats coach Larry Brown said in a brief phone interview.

Rockets match Cavs' offer: Cleveland's attempt to sign free agent Kyle Lowry was rebuffed Wednesday when Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said he planned to match Cleveland's offer sheet to the veteran guard. Houston had one week to match Cleveland's package - a three-year, $24 million deal with a fourth option year - but Morey wasted no time and kept his promise to hold on to Lowry.

King replaces Thorn: Billy King is the New Jersey Nets' new general manager.

King was hired Wednesday to replace Rod Thorn as the team's top executive, new owner Mikhail Prokhorov announced in a release.

Thorn is stepping aside as president and general manager on Friday. He has said he simply wants a change of scenery after a decade of running the team.

Prokhorov said on Tuesday his new chief executive would control both the job as president and general manager, something Thorn did in recent months after general manager Kiki Vandeweghe's contract was not renewed.

Turner signs: Philadelphia 76ers president Ed Stefanski announced the signing of Evan Turner, the No. 2 overall draft pick, on Wednesday.

Turner averaged 20.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists while leading Ohio State into the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

D'oh for Udoh: The Golden State Warriors say top draft pick Ekpe Udoh will miss six months after undergoing surgery on his injured left wrist. Udoh underwent the operation on Wednesday in San Francisco to repair a torn ligament in his wrist. He will have his wrist immobilized for about 10 weeks.

Udoh injured the wrist at a supervised workout at the team's facility earlier this month. He was selected sixth overall out of Baylor in last month's draft.
