PADS Services offers cooling center

A suburban agency that provides shelter for homeless people every winter is offering shelter from the heat this summer, officials said Friday.

Anyone seeking to get out of the sweltering heat can go to a cooling center at the PADS Crisis Services office in North Chicago. The office is at Green Bay and Buckley roads on the grounds of the North Chicago VA Medical Center.

The cooling center is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day for any Lake County resident who needs to get out of the heat, according to a news release from the group.

PADS also is accepting donations of bottled water and snacks this summer to help heat-stricken residents at the center.

To make a donation, call 847-689-4357 and request extension 124 or extension 121.
