More Beckham hits would be music to Guillen's ears

Since Gordon Beckham debuted with the White Sox last June, the song "Your Love" by The Outfield played at U.S. Cellular Field when he came to the plate to hit.

Mired in a season-long slump, Beckham decided to stop the music all together when the Sox returned home to play the Angels on Wednesday.

"I said before the game, 'Just don't play anything.' I have to be hitting better to deserve an intro song," Beckham said. "And then King (Paul Konerko) came over and said, 'You will have an intro song and I'm going to pick it.' So, I'm following in the King's footsteps."

Konerko selected Metallica's "Seek and Destroy" for Beckham.

When asked about Beckham's new song, manager Ozzie Guillen was more than happy to chime in.

"It's kind of weird, man," Guillen said. "All this stuff. If he's going to start hitting, I'll bring the band. I'll pay every day for them to have a concert for him. I don't know how people come up with when they're going to change what kind of music they're playing.

"When Babe Ruth hit, and all those guys were playing, they didn't have a sound system in the stadium, and they had like 4,000 hits. I think the last thing Paul Molitor and all those Hall of Famers worried about was what kind of music was playing."

Benched at Detroit on Tuesday and now hitting in the No. 9 spot, Beckham was batting .102 (5-for-49) with 15 strikeouts in May heading into Thursday night's game against the Angels.

"I swear to God, I would bring Michael Jackson back to life, I would have a concert every day and fire all the coaches," Guillen said. "I'm glad he changed his music. It was kind of weird. That's not a baseball song. When you play that song, all the guys start running. It's a romantic song. You need to pick a song that's tough."
