Oakwood Hills man killed in Cary pedestrian accident

A 29-year-old Oakwood Hills man was killed late Thursday when he was struck by a vehicle as he was crossing the street, Cary police said Friday.

Omar Fuentes was crossing the street at 10:55 p.m. on the 100 block of Crystal Street in Cary when he was hit by a vehicle headed northwest. He was not in a crosswalk at the time, according to police.

Fuentes was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he later was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle, Francisco R. Montesinos, 27, of Rolling Meadows was charged with failure to stop after an accident involving personal injury or death, a felony, according to a police report.

Montesinos was being held at the McHenry County jail, and must post $3,000 to be released. His next court date is May 24.

According to court records, on Nov. 4 Cary police cited Montesinos for speeding after he was clocked driving 45 mph in a 30 mph zone along West Main Street. On Feb. 8, Fox River Grove police ticketed him for driving 54 mph in a 35 mph zone on Route 22, near Doyle Road. In both cases Montesinos was fined $75, records show.

Cary police and the Lake County Coroner's office continue to investigate.
