Fabyan Parkway turn lane coming soon in Batavia

A solution to turning difficulties at Fabyan Parkway and Van Nortwick Avenue is just weeks away.

Kane County has signed contracts to put in a dedicated left-turn lane from westbound Fabyan to southbound Van Nortwick in Batavia.

Construction will start by June at the latest, and is expected to take about two months, according to county officials.

Four-lane Fabyan will be widened, on the north edge, from Carriage Drive to just west of Van Nortwick to make room for the 200-foot turn lane.

The bid for construction came in at $654,000, nearly 24 percent less than initially expected. County engineers believe contractors are hungrier for work during the recession. Overall, the county budgeted $1.2 million for engineering, land acquisition and construction.

The federal government is paying 90 percent of the cost, and the county 10 percent.
