St. Charles man guilty of growing pot

A St. Charles Township man could be sentenced to prison after admitting to charges stemming from a police raid that led to the seizure of nearly 100 marijuana plants.

Timothy Dell, 30, of the 900 block of Lexington Avenue, pleaded guilty in Kane County Wednesday to unlawful possession of a cannabis sativa plant and unlawful production of a cannabis sativa plant, both Class 2 felonies, authorities said.

He was arrested in August after sheriff's officials executed a search warrant at his home and seized 96 marijuana plants in varying stages of growth, according to police.

Kane County Judge T. Jordan Gallagher set sentencing for July 15. Dell, who remains free on bond, faces between three and seven years in prison or probation.

His attorney, R. James Haule, could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Court records show Dell has prior convictions in Kane County for burglary, resisting police, driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
