Police identify accident victim

Downers Grove police have identified Jerome Sherwin of Lombard, 85, as the man who died Tuesday morning shortly after his black Ford Focus plunged into a retention pond on Authority Drive in Downers Grove.

The pond is near the Illinois State Police District 15 headquarters by Ogden Avenue and I-88.

Officials say they still do not know why the car veered off the road and into the water.
