Allstate to raise rates 8.2% on homeowner insurance

Allstate Corp. will implement an 8.2 percent rate increase on homeowner insurance policies this summer.

Beginning July 5, when customers renew their policies, they will see an average increase of between $67 and $82 a year, said spokeswoman Shaundra Turner.

The hike is need because of "an increase in instances and severity of homeowner's claim losses," she said.

The Northbrook-based insurance company also began offering several discounts to people with automobile insurance, including a 7 percent discount to customers who pay their bills in full, as well as several new deductible options.
