As for Jenks, news good; Linebrink another story

GLENDALE, Ariz. - As the White Sox prepare to break camp, manager Ozzie Guillen is still worried about one of his relief pitchers.

Earlier in the spring, it was closer Bobby Jenks. Now, it's Scott Linebrink.

Slowed by a nagging calf injury when Cactus League play began, Jenks shook it off and impressed Guillen with his 2 innings of work against the A's on Tuesday. The big right-hander didn't allow a run and looked a lot like his old self with 4 strikeouts.

Guillen went to the mound during Jenks' second inning against Oakland and was prepared to make a pitching change.

"He didn't want to come out and that's great news," Guillen said. "He pitched 2 innings strong and that's a plus."

As for Linebrink, he is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA in 9 relief appearances this spring.

"He's still the big key for us, for the bullpen," Guillen said. "All 25 guys are very important. That's the type of ballclub we have."

Surging forward: A day after winning the last bullpen spot, Sergio Santos showed why the Sox are so excited about his potential. The former infielder pitched 11/3 scoreless innings against the Cleveland Indians and had 4 strikeouts.

"The sky is definitely the limit," Santos said. "I will try to be the best I can. I set really high goals for myself. Some are unattainable, but I try to go for them.

"You can never stop getting better at this game. That's what makes the best at their sport the best. They keep trying to get better and improve."

Deep thoughts: The White Sox are breaking camp Thursday with 25 players, but manager Ozzie Guillen knows they are going to need help along the way.

Guillen is excited about having talent such as Daniel Hudson, Greg Aquino, Erick Threets, Tyler Flowers, Jordan Danks and Dayan Viciedo just a phone call away.

"This is the best spring training we've had," Guillen said. "In the past we were begging people. Now we sent down people and if something happens today or tomorrow, I know that hole will be covered. I know what we need will be covered because I know I can go down there.

"Our scouts did a good job the last couple years and that makes my life a little easier, makes my decisions a little easier."
