Reserve a rain barrel
Pre-ordering for rain barrels is under way through the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District. Barrels, which are 55 gallons and cost $79 each, come in black, blue, gray or terra cotta. Linking hoses, pedestal riser, flex elbows and other accessories can be purchased separately. The hoses can be used to connect multiple rain barrels or divert water to a garden or flower bed. Deadline for all orders is April 30. Pickup will be noon to 7 p.m. May 12 and 13, at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Purchase online at www.lakeswcd.org or call (847) 223-1056.

State Bank of the Lakes honored
State Bank of the Lakes was recently awarded the 2009 Community Service Award by the Lindenhurst Park District and Illinois Park and Recreation Association/Illinois Association of Park Districts. The honor was given in recognition of the bank employees' volunteer efforts.
State Bank employees provided volunteer support at various events throughout the year. In addition, State Bank of the Lakes sponsored a variety of events, programs and literature throughout 2009, officials said.
"State Bank of the Lakes has been extremely supportive in its commitment to advancing parks, recreation and leisure within the Lindenhurst community," said Lindenhurst Park District Director Tom Lippert. State Bank of the Lakes has five locations, including Antioch, Lindenhurst, Grayslake, Spring Grove and Lake Villa.
Car wash scheduled
The Mundelein Fire Explorers Post No. 196 will host a car wash fundraiser Saturday, April 10. It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the main fire station, 1000 N. Midlothian Road. Funds will allow members to attend a fire cadet training program this summer, officials said.
Flu clinic in Mundelein
The Lake County Health Department will offer a walk-in H1N1 flu vaccination clinic at New Hope Christian Fellowship Church, 1401 South Lake St., Mundelein, through to Saturday, April 3.
