Guillen sends a message: focus on team, not tweets

In an attempt to defuse the latest Twitter controversy at the White Sox' training camp this spring, manager Ozzie Guillen met with reporters before Saturday's Cactus League game against the San Diego Padres.

On Friday, Oney Guillen, Ozzie's 24-year-old son, resigned his scouting position with the club after being reprimanded by management for taking some shots at the Sox with his tweets. Ozzie Guillen was reportedly upset with the situation and didn't talk to the media after Friday's exhibition loss to the Cubs.

A day later, Ozzie said he was the one that told Oney to step aside.

"My kid made a mistake," Ozzie told reporters. "I told him to resign myself. That came from me."

White Sox general manager Kenny Williams apparently made the call for Oney to stop tweeting, and Ozzie said he has no problem with the general manager.

"Kenny's job is to protect the ballclub," Ozzie said. "Kenny's my boss and he's always going to be. Hopefully, our relationship stays the same. I think it will. We're grown men.

"I don't think (Yankees GM Brian) Cashman and (former manager) Joe Torre got along that well and they won six championships."

With Opening Day just over two weeks away, the White Sox manager said it's time to focus on baseball.

"It's time to talk about how good (Jake) Peavy is, how good (Gordon) Beckham is, how good my ballclub is going to play," Ozzie said. "I think the White Sox players deserve that, and have earned that. I will never put my 25 players behind anything else.

"My 25 players are more important than Kenny, more important that Jerry (Reinsdorf). They're more important than my entire family because my 25 players are going to make me good or bad."
