Scouting the state's 3A/4A supersectionals

Super Tuesday

Here's a look at the rest of Tuesday's Class 3A and 4A supersectionals around the state.

Class 3A

At Northern Illinois University (Convocation Center), 7:30 p.m.

Peoria Richwoods (28-2) vs. Oswego (24-6): Oswego is looking to duplicate last year's surprising 3A second-place finish behind 6-4 senior double-double machine Andrew Ziemnik (19 ppg, 12 rpg) and 6-4 returnees Joe Kwiatkowski and Colin Siebert. Richwoods, the top-ranked 3A team which handed Champaign Centennial its only loss and survived a rugged regional and sectional, looks to play at home with a solid crew led by do-it-all Tylon Deal and stud defender Tony Frazier.

At UIC Pavilion, 6 p.m.

Robeson (22-5) vs. Hillcrest (28-3): South suburban power Hillcrest hopes this is the year it breaks through with its first trophy behind 6-5 all-state candidate Eric Gaines (14 ppg). Robeson reached the Public League quarterfinals behind PG Lashane Purdy (16 ppg) and 6-3 Victor Roberson.

At Springfield (Prairie Capitol Convention Center), 7:30 p.m.

Champaign Centennial (30-1) vs. Cahokia (24-9): Defending 3A champion Centennial, coached by York grad Tim Lavin, not only has 6-3 Mr. Basketball candidate and Drake recruit Rayvonte Rice (25 ppg) but a 6-8 duo of Jeff Johnson and Josh Piper. Cahokia has beaten 4A supersectional qualifier O'Fallon with 6-7 Jarrion Norris (19 ppg).

Class 4A

At UIC Pavilion, 8 p.m.

Maine South (28-5) vs. Whitney Young (21-6): Maine South's dream season continued with three straight postseason wins by 5 total points behind its balanced crew led by PG Pat Maher, P.J. Killean and 6-6 Matt Palucki. Now comes the Hawks' biggest test in defending 4A champ Young, which rallied from a 17-point third-quarter deficit in the sectional final with Foreman and is led by Oregon State-bound PG Ahmad Starks, Purdue-bound Anthony Johnson and 6-8 freshman Tommy Hamilton, Jr.

At Illinois State University (Redbird Arena), 7:30 p.m.

Joliet (24-7) vs. O'Fallon (29-2): Joliet looks to continue its final ride as a combined athletic program and has been led by 6-6 Anthony Shoemaker (14 ppg). O'Fallon made its third trip in four years to the Elite Eight and was briefly ranked No. 1 behind 6-4 junior all-state candidate Roosevelt Jones (21 ppg, 14 rpg).
