Maine West wins twice Friday; Leyden stuns Proviso East

Maine West picked up a win off the court and earned one on it Friday.

The Warriors (9-16, 2-8) edged rival Maine East 74-69 in overtime in their Central Suburban North boys basketball finale in Des Plaines.

Earlier in the day, the Warriors picked up a forfeit win from Larkin because of an IHSA coaching violation. Larkin won their meeting 66-64 on Dec. 14.

Alex Samuelson (23 points), Conor Hart (21) and Odera Eneogwe (15) led Maine West to the on-court victory.

Leyden 49, Proviso East 47: Mike Woolf had 18 points and Javi Lazcano 12 as host Leyden (12-13, 6-5) stunned West Suburban Gold champion Proviso East (17-6, 11-1). The Pirates won the previous meeting 81-51 in Maywood a month ago.
