Library events in Schaumburg

A variety of programs ranging from writing workshops to concerts to a citizenship class will be offered at the Schaumburg Township District Library throughout March.

The new month will begin with a free concert by the Aldrin Hand Chime Ensemble in the Audiovisual Theatre from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 1.

The library's annual Inside Writing and Publishing workshops will start Thursday, March 4, with "From Idea to Book" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Adult Classroom. Authors Lisa Buehlor and Gail Lukasik will provide practical advice on how to turn an idea into a book. Part two of the series, "The Stories Inside You," will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23. In this hands-on workshop, writers will create short scenes and receive feedback.

The Whiskey Brothers Irish Band will perform a free concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Audiovisual Theatre, performing on such instruments as a tin whistle, fiddle, bodhran, mandolin and guitars.

A Citizenship Class will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 9 through May 25 in the Rasmussen South Room. Both the library and Northwest Suburban High School District 214 will outline the benefits, requirements and obstacles related to citizenship.

Just in time for the spring thaw, a trip to the Chicago Flower and Garden Show at Navy Pier is planned from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11. The fee of $32 covers admission and transportation to and from the library parking lot.
