The preliminaries are over at the IHSA cheerleading state championships in Bloomington. Of the 100 teams that qualified for state, 40 now remain to compete in Saturday's finals - 10 each in the categories of coed, large schools, medium schools and small schools.
The small school category is dominated by high schools downstate - the only qualifying "small" school from in or near the Daily Herald coverage area is Timothy Christian in Elmhurst.
Once the finalists are determined the scores are wiped out, and all cheer teams start out Saturday's competition with "0" scores.
