Bergman wins Democratic nod in DuPage forest Dist. 4

Eric Bergman defeated Donald Kirchenberg Tuesday to win the Democratic nomination for the DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission in District 4.

Unofficial results showed Bergman with 57 percent of the votes while Kirchenberg has 43 percent after all 129 precincts reported their results.

"I'm am incredibly pleased," Bergman said. "I went into this knowing that what we need to do to win in November is put together a serious and sophisticated campaign."

Bergman, 45, of Glen Ellyn, is a registered nurse at Elmhurst Hospital and a flight attendant for American Airlines. He has also led a grass-roots effort to save trees at Ackerman Park in Glen Ellyn.

Bergman has said his priorities are preserving open space, engaging the public and improving transparency on the forest preserve commission, especially when it comes to monetary issues.

"The current board is spending money without proper planning so money is being put to waste," he said.

District 4 includes all or parts of Wheaton, Winfield, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights and Lombard.

Bergman will face incumbent Republican Michael Formento in the November election.
