Abortion position separates candidates

As a woman, I care deeply about the issue of pro-life vs. pro-choice. In the Republican primary for state representative, the difference between six-term incumbent Suzie Bassi and challenger Tom Morrison is very clear.

Suzie Bassi is endorsed by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action and receives many thousands of dollars from the abortion advocacy group, Personal PAC. She is a member of "Catholics for Choice." On the issue of parental notification, Mrs. Bassi voted with Democrats to repeal the existing substitute for parents being notified before a minor receives an abortion. Mrs. Bassi is so pro-choice that it affects her fiscal policy: she consistently supports more government spending to pay for abortion procedures.

Tom Morrison is endorsed by the Illinois Federation for Right to Life and the Illinois Citizens for Life. He is in favor of a parental notification law that would require actual moms and dads or legal guardians to be notified before their minor daughter receives an abortion.

He is a strong advocate of counseling centers for women facing an unplanned pregnancy. When you go to vote on Feb. 2, keep these facts in mind.
