Board to name member:The Mundelein High School District 120 board is expected to name its newest member today, following closed-session interviews. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the school, 1350 W. Hawley St. The appointee will replace Chris Doerr, who quit earlier this month.Zion man to hear president:A community volunteer from Zion will witness the State of the Union address Wednesday night at the Capitol as a guest of U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean of Barrington. Larry Daniels, 20, a volunteer mentor with the YouthBuild Lake County organization, has been invited to attend the annual speech. Daniels was chosen because Bean has seen the group in action and was impressed with its efforts, her spokesman said. Bean's re-election campaign organization will pay for Daniels' trip.IESA Cheerleading State Competition results:Lake Zurich Middle School North and St. Mary School-Buffalo Grove each collected first-place finishes in the Illinois Elementary School Association's cheerleading competition, according to results released Monday. Lake Zurich Middle School North placed first in the Large Team Cheer competition, and second in Large Team Routine. St. Mary School-Buffalo Grove placed first in the Small Team Cheer competition and fifth in Small Team Routine. The competition was Saturday in the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria.Silent auction in Lake Villa:The Lake Villa District Library Foundation will conduct its 4th Annual Mardi Gras Silent Auction at Lake Villa District Library from 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. money raised from the auction will be used to help the library start a pilot video game collection for children and adults.
