Northwest suburban 50-plus calendar

Events that specify they are for those who are over age 50, including trips, classes, support programs, fitness and lectures. Deadline is two weeks before event date.

Northwest Culture Bus: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. alternating Wednesdays from Jan. 13-March 24. The winter session of the North/Northwest Culture Bus, sponsored by the Barrington Area Council on Aging and CJE-Senior Life provides a series of cultural outings designed for people experiencing early memory loss. Free Tax Service: By appointment 9 a.m.-noon Wednesdays and Fridays Feb. 3-April 14, Elk Grove Sheila Ray Adult Center, 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village. Seniors ages 60 and over and those with low to moderate incomes can sign up to have their 20009 federal and state income tax returns prepared by volunteers from the IRS-AARP Tax Aide Service. Tax Help for Seniors: By appointment Monday and Friday mornings from Feb. 15-April 12, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave. IRS-trained AARP tax aides help seniors ages 60 and older and the disabled with free tax counseling. Appointment times are 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. Call (847) 392-0100 pr register in person at the Reception desk on the second floor of the library.

AARP Income Tax Assistance: The Barrington Area Council on Aging is offering the AARP Income Tax Assistance Program. Trained AARP volunteers will assist seniors with their taxes at the BACOA office, 6000 Garlands Lane, suite 100, Barrington. Memory screenings: As-needed basis, Prairieview Building at The Garlands of Barrington, 6000 Garlands Lane, suite 100, Barrington. The Barrington Area Council on Aging is offering free memory screenings designed to promote early detection and intervention for those concerned about memory loss. Northern Illinois Men's Senior Baseball League: The Northern Illinois Men's Senior Baseball League is seeking players, who will be 45 or older in 2010, interested in possibly playing baseball next year. Play is on Sundays from May-August. For information, (847) 772-0554 or lawdrl990@yahoo.com.

The Senior Health Insurance Program counselors are ready to help you with your health insurance needs, questions or problems.
