Sun City clubs

VISA: Laurie Dishman, a licensed clinical professional counselor from the Guild for the Blind, shared her knowledge and the wisdom gleaned from her clients to help people cope with vision loss.

Dishman talked at the recent VISA Group meeting at Sun City Huntley. She said: "It is important to recognize the normal stages of adjustment such as fear and anxiety. Then, maximize the vision you have by getting a low-vision evaluation to learn about lighting and magnification."

Dishman helped everyone learn about resources and devices so they could be independent. She also advised: "Stay involved with your social life and community, take an active approach, and focus on what you can do."

The group learned that good adjustment takes tenacity, courage, and assertiveness to capitalize on a person's natural talents and to increase self esteem.

Tiara Tea Society: Celebrate "Fat Tuesday" on Feb. 16, at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano in Algonquin Commons. Join the Tiara Tea Society for fresh Italian pasta, salads and decadent desserts - all to celebrate "Fat Tuesday. Cost is $21. Carpool from 12120 Summer Ridge Lane at 11:30 a.m. The menu includes: Lasagna Bolognese, Farfalle Alfredo, Ziti al Forno, Rigatoni alla Bolognese, or Ravioli Quattro Formaggi, as well as a green salad or Caesar salad and a dessert sampling includes cannoli, tiramisu, and chocolate torta.

Cribbage: On Jan. 20, Jim Jemilo took first place with a perfect score of 484 points. Second place was won by Glenn Strong with 478 points. High individual hands were posted by Jim Pfotenhauer, Bob Ferraris, Carol Charpentier 24, Tom Fleming, Don Gloagow 21,20, Jemilo, Bill Macomber, David Petty 20. There were 3 skunks. New member John Capito was welcomed to the club.
