No favoritism with Schaumburg's plows

In the Saturday, Jan. 9 edition of the Daily Herald, an editorial titled, "No one said life is fair:" appeared.

I am responsible for the Village of Schaumburg's snow plowing, and I am always very concerned about the possibility that anything relating to the snowplow plan favors one area of the village over another.

On Saturday morning after reading the editorial, I drove both Springinsguth Road and Wise Road to inspect the snow plowing. Both streets were clear of snow curb to curb, with no snow packed sections anywhere to be seen.

The reported potholes on Springinsguth Road were relatively minor, as the street had had all of the potholes filled in late fall.

Both streets in question are on our primary snowplow routes. Springinsguth Road has two trucks dedicated to it, while Wise Road has one truck assigned.

If Wise Road appeared to have received preferential treatment, it may be due to its location near to the Engineering and Public Works building.

As trucks get loaded with salt and go out to their routes, they will drop their plow blades and clear village streets on their way out to their assigned route. Often, Wise Road is taken by a plow driver to get to Springinsguth Road, for example.

I don't think that stopping this practice in the interest of fairness would be in anyone's best interest.
